A government school teacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district was suspended after he was found playing Candy Crush Saga for over an hour during work hours. The District Magistrate (DM) found that the teacher played Candy Crush Saga for 1 hour and 17 minutes, spoke on the phone for 26 minutes, and used Facebook for 17 minutes along with other apps such as Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, etc during work hours. The DM suspended the teacher while sharing a picture of the teacher’s screen time throughout the week on an official notice.

Commenting on the notice, users of microblogging site X were left divided with some saying the teacher should have been terminated while others highlighting if a DM is authorised to go through a government employee’s phone.

“But is the DM authorised to go through the private mobile phone of a govt employee and put out records in public?” wrote one user. “How can he do that? And so what? Was he doing this during class time? How can the DM ‘scrub’ through his or anyones phone?” wrote another.

While another user mockingly pointed out that the screen time shows how “sincere” the teacher was. “Absolutely tough situation calls tough measure. Teacher mobile was checked before 2 PM. From morning 8 AM to 2 PM out of 6 hours, 2 hours on phone was enough to show how much he is sincere,” wrote another.

Meanwhile, a class 10 student at a private school in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli was brutally thrashed by his teacher over his incomplete homework. He suffered multiple injuries, including a broken tooth, the police said. The boy collapsed on the floor following which the teacher fled the scene. The classmates informed the principal, who then rushed the injured boy to the hospital. Police arrested the teacher, identified as Mohammed Asif, who taught science subjects (Chemistry and Physics) at the school.
