People working to provide free education to children in need is one of the most noble initiatives among them. Similarly, Gaurav Mishra, a government teacher in Bihar, is helping students get an education in his village.

Gaurav Mishra is a resident of Bhatpura village in the Manigachhi block of Darbhanga, Bihar. A government teacher by profession, Gaurav relentlessly works towards providing the best possible education to students who cannot afford the same. The teacher runs a coaching centre to provide free education to children in his village.

Apart from the coaching centre, Gaurav also organises competitions among the students every year. The competition is called the ‘Village Olympiad’. He also holds rewards for the students who attain the top three ranks in the olympiad. The incentives are Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,500, respectively, along with a bicycle.

According to Gaurav Mishra, his father was also a teacher by profession. Unfortunately, Gaurav lost his father when he was in the 12th grade. As Gaurav has expressed, his father wanted him to contribute to society. After the death of his father, Shyamnath Mishra, Gaurav decided to fulfil the dream of his father. Gaurav searches for students who live in rural areas and prepares them for the Village Olympiad that he organises every year. He also arranges two categories in the competition, such as the junior category and the senior category.

When asked about the significance of his initiative, Gaurav said, “Educational qualification is very important for a person. Only an educated person can make the lives of children better. Therefore, my vision is that I can give knowledge to society so that those children can create the seeds of knowledge in the coming generation as well.”

According to Gaurav, his IIT pass-out friends help him set the question papers and educate the students throughout the year. Though Gaurav has recently started the quiz competition, he wants to organise it every year to help as many children as possible. He wants to inspire the children to get a proper education above all else.

This year, 210 children from Darbhanga, Madhubani, and nearby places participated in the quiz competition. The result was published on June 21.
